Digimon species are classified by Digivolution levels. Digimon generally hatch out of Digi-Eggs as Fresh level Digimon. In the anime, most digimon encountered are of the rookie or champion level, ultimate and mega-level digimon are rarer. Digimon of one Digivolution level are generally far stronger than Digimon of the previous level. There are exceptions where a Digimon has been able to defeat an opponent of a higher level. There are also cases, such as with Lucemon and Arkadimon, where a Digimon is far more powerful than what its actual Digivolution level would lead one to think.
For most Digimon, there are six Digivolution levels:
Fresh (Translating literally as "Baby 1", known as "Baby" in the English anime dub) In-Training (Translating literally as "Baby 2") Rookie (Translating literally as "Child") Champion (Translating literally as "Adult") Ultimate (Translating literally as "Perfect") Mega (Translating literally as "Ultimate")
There are also other levels, the most notable. These digivolutions will be listed below for a more informative explanation.
Types of Digivolution
Standard Digivolution A Digivolution that all Digimon are completely capable of, even in the wild. By simply aging, Digimon can unlock the power of Standard Digivolution. Digivolving from the initial Fresh stage usually progresses, but each subsequent level takes progressively more time. This only happens because of the data found in the natural surroundings of the Digimon. Therefore, if a Digimon were to find a decent amount of data, they would be able to access the power and Digivolve to the next level.
However, when a Digimon bonds with a Digidestined they can Digivolve much more quickly. With the Digivice in hand, the human shares power with the Digimon allowing him to Digivolve. Digimon who digivolve using a digivice will revert, or "De-digivolve", to a lower form after a certain amount of time or if sufficiently injured in a battle.
Super Evolve - Is the Japanese term for when a Digimon evolves from their Champion/Adult stage to their Ultimate/Perfect form. However, in the English dub of the first two seasons, this process was not given a unique term and was simply called Digivolution. In Digimon Adventure, the power of a Crest was required. But in our RP, they will need a digisoul charge to use it. Also, you may not use the digivice iC, as that will only let you digivolve to champion.
Dark (or Corrupt) Digivolution - A corrupt form of regular Digivolution, usually resulting in an evil virus-type. A Digimon Dark Digivolves when its partner coerces it to Digivolve forcefully or with a mind clouded with anger. A Dark Digivolved Digimon is evil and perceives nothing but its urges to destroy, making it very dangerous.
DNA Digivolution - With DNA Digivolution, two Digimon combine into one Digimon of a higher level. Though the new Digimon has one body, the minds of the two Digimon remain separate, acting in perfect harmony and unison. When a DNA Digivolved Digimon speaks its voice consists of the original Digimons' voices uttered simultaneously. It was also stated that a Digimon formed through DNA Digivolution is considerably stronger than normal Ultimates or Megas, as the combined power of the two is joined by extra data.
Warp Digivolution / Ultimate Evolution - Is a digivolution process where a Digimon can reach a higher level directly bypassing any intermittent phases.
Mode Change - Occurs when a Digimon becomes a different version of its current species. The new mode is usually more powerful than the previous.
There are some Digimon species who have multiple "modes", and are able to "Mode Change" between them. Often, this involves going from their normal form to a special mode that is more powerful in some way. For example, Beelzemon and Beelzemon Blast Mode. A Digimon's different modes are generally very similar in appearance.
Different modes of a Digimon are generally considered to be the same species. This is because a Digimon who goes through a Mode change remains at the same Digivolution level (Imperialdramon (Dragon Mode), Imperialdramon Fighter Mode and Imperialdramon Paladin Mode are all Mega level digimon), and retain the same name (except with a suffix giving the name of the new mode).
Although Mode Changing does not result in a change in a Digimon's species or level, it is considered a form of Digivolution.
Digimon known to Mode Change are:
Imperialdramon to Fighter Mode and then Paladin Mode
Gallantmon to Crimson Mode
Beelzemon to Blast Mode
Lucemon to Chaos Mode, then Shadow Lord Mode & Larva (unique in that he changes level as well as mode).
Belphemon Sleep Mode to Rage Mode
Alphamon to Alphamon (Ultimate War-blade OuRyuuken)
